At the recently opened Art Taipei, which kicked off on the 24th, a representative from a Korean gallery shared, "We intentionally selected only brighter and cuter artworks." The first floor of the Taipei World Trade Center (TWTC) was filled with vibrant colors and charming characters, creating a lively atmosphere. With 120 galleries from six countries and regions participating, Korea stood out as one of the largest contributors, following Taiwan and Japan, showcasing a plethora of similarly themed artworks.
The THEO Gallery, participating in Art Taipei for the fourth consecutive year, brought a collection of warm and cozy artworks. Among them is the piece Nana by artist Kwon Hana, featuring a girl with large, expressive eyes who tells a story. Other notable artists include JEJE, who expresses human emotions through motifs inspired by children, and Marcelo Suaznabar, who visualizes surreal forms from imagination. Additionally, the gallery presented works by Mane, who has expanded character illustration into the realm of drawing, aiming to attract Taiwanese collectors.
Gallery Dasan also displayed works that evoke a bright and lyrical atmosphere, featuring artists Esther Wang, Kim Bar, and Kim Bo-min. According to Gallery Dasan, Kim Bar, known for his friendly themes like smiles, flowers, and hearts, conveys positive and uplifting energy. He recently achieved significant success at a solo exhibition in Taiwan, selling over 40 pieces and garnering high popularity.
Gi Il-ho, director of Gallery Dasan, noted, "The tendency of Taiwanese people to admire Japanese culture is reflected in their collecting habits, as they generally prefer cute and charming artworks." This preference is evident throughout the fair, where the atmosphere is filled with joy and creativity, highlighting the unique blend of cultural influences and artistic expressions that characterize this years Art Taipei.
